Installation, Fabric, Old windows and thread. 2014. - An installation of an old window with red peppers hanging symbolizes the journey of cultural elements across continents. While the chili pepper originated in South America, it has become an essential part of Asian cuisine, embraced yet still carrying its roots from afar. The window represents the perspective through which we view and incorporate diverse cultures—familiar yet distant, admired yet not fully understood. This piece invites reflection on the layers of cultural exchange: what we borrow, and adapt, and how each tradition, much like the chili, enriches our lives without ever losing its unique identity.
Fabric and thread. 2024 - The Seven Vessels The vessels relate to Mahsuri’s story. Just as a vessel holds its contents together, Mahsuri’s story is held together by the memories. The threads and patches of fabric that bind these scraps together could symbolize the interconnectedness of these events, reflecting how they collectively shaped her destiny. The stitching of the fabric on Mahsuri & the Seven Vessels represents the passage of time and the collective memories that cradle and will carry the new memories.
Nelayan #1 Nelayan #2, Embroidery artworks and fabric boats. 2024 - The boats, the third piece of my artwork, are a tribute to my grandfather, a diver, and his love for the sea. These boats are not just vessels, but carriers of stories, memories, and a legacy that will sail through time. Crafted by a group of female refugees, these boats are a testament to their resilience, strength, and hope. The common Thread of Life across all 3 pieces carry the legacy of the past and the promise of the future. They are a tribute to the spirit of women, a testament to their resilience, and a beacon of hope for the generations to come.
